They expect to have that part completed sometime today, July 9, 1999. Then a brick base will be constucted over the next month or so and our lady will be once again ready for the next 100 years of service. It was quite an operation moving a 208' lighthouse over 2000', but was done without incident and in good time. Once the actual movement started it was a smooth operation and covered amazing distances in a day's time. Great numbers of visitors have and continue to visit the construction area viewing safely from a distance. Yesterday alone over 20 thousand people visited and watched. We would still stress caution when visiting Buxton and negotiating the added traffic volumes for our little area. Patience is the order of the day. Our streets and roads were not designed for this volume. Take your time and enjoy your stay. Let's be careful out there. We're happy she made the trip and we're all looking forward to the re-opening and re-lighting of our familiar beacon in the night. Follow the links to the left for the details. We'll keep you posted on new and interesting developments. Sparky Page 1 || Page
